Hammer

Few corals define a reef tank like the Hammer Coral (Euphyllia ancora). Its hammer- and anchor-shaped tentacle tips sway hypnotically in the current, creating a wall of golden, green, or rainbow-tipped motion that anchors any aquascape. Hammers thrive in moderate light and moderate, indirect flow — enough to keep the tentacles dancing without tearing tissue. Branching varieties grow fast and frag easily, making them excellent long-term investments. Keep calcium and alkalinity stable, and give them room: Euphyllia pack potent sweeper tentacles and will sting non-Euphyllia neighbors. As a bonus, clownfish will often adopt a Hammer as a surrogate anemone!
