Pocillopora

Pocillopora is the confidence-builder of the SPS world. Famously hardy and fast-growing, its fuzzy, densely-polyped branches form beautiful cauliflower-shaped colonies in pinks, greens, and purples — and it forgives the parameter wobbles that would strip an Acropora. Give it moderate-to-high light and good flow, and it will reward you with visible growth and near-constant polyp extension. It's the ideal species for testing whether your system (and your husbandry) are SPS-ready.
