Scolymia

The Scolymia — affectionately known as the "Scoly" — is the ultimate single-polyp showpiece. Each of these Australian button corals is one massive, fleshy disc painted in combinations of bleeding reds, electric greens, and swirling rainbow patterns that look almost too vivid to be real. Scolys are wonderfully low-maintenance: place them flat on the sand bed in low-to-moderate light with gentle flow, and offer a meaty meal (mysis, krill, or pellets) once or twice a week after their feeder tentacles emerge in the evening. They grow slowly, sting rarely, and hold their value beautifully.
