Photosynthetic Gorgonians — sea fans — bring something no other coral can: graceful, tree-like vertical structure that turns a flat reefscape into a dimensional seascape. Our photosynthetic varieties (like Purple Candelabra and Purple Bottle Brush) feed themselves via their symbiotic algae, making them far easier than their non-photosynthetic cousins. Give them moderate-to-strong light and, most importantly, brisk flow along their branches to keep tissue clean and polyps extended. Their flexible skeletons sway beautifully and they're peaceful neighbors to nearly everything.
