Trachy

The Trachyphyllia — or open brain coral — is a living watercolor painting. Its huge, folded mantle inflates each day into pillowy swirls of pastel pink, purple, metallic teal, and neon green, making a single specimen the focal point of an entire tank. Trachys are classic sand-bed corals: place them flat on soft substrate (never wedged in rock), give them low-to-moderate light and gentle flow, and feed meaty foods a couple of evenings a week. Their soft tissue tears easily, so handle by the skeleton only.
